ABOUT THE ARTIST

A native of New York City, M.L. Norton’s career began as an editor at Harper’s Bazaar. She later moved to Town & Country magazine as Fashion Director for 22 years. The experience of working with the world’s foremost photographers, designers and artists in addition to studying at the Art Students League and the National Academy, has helped focus her eye on the beauty and detail that surrounds her.
After moving to Maine with her family in 1994, she attended The Maine College of Art before starting her design firm Windermere Studios. She has painted Still Life and Portraits and objects in nature and is featured in many collections from Maine to California. Following an extensive watercolor series of Maine Seaweed, she has done a series of palm trees and is now working on her Hibiscus Series.

I am fascinated by the many moods and gestures of this mercurial, wonderful flower. The gentle leaning to catch the light - so feminine and curious. Or the stiffness of the petals as they decide to open… and then the sheer bravado when they do! And the way the leaves support them and bask in their shadows - I want to paint them forever!
